Hey and welcome to the Duggin Money channel. I am Duggin I am a certified public accountant and I love talking about anything money related and today we are going to be unboxing a new camera I just got the Osmo action is a DJI brand of camera. It is very similar to the GoPro and so we’re going to get right into that here we go alright so this is the box it came in it is actually a pretty large box but it had a larger bag for accessories that came with it and I bought it off of eBay from a shop called Adorama. I think I’ve bought something from them before they do a lot of cameras and accessories like that the the price was a hundred and ninety nine dollars which included the camera, a memory card and the all the accessories and they had a really nice breakdown because they didn’t just say the accessories were free like there’s the camera for 163 dollars the memory card for 12 and then the accessory kit for 24. So I thought that was a pretty neat breakout before we get into the camera.
There’s the memory card it was a 64 gigabyte Lexar card which is nice we’ll probably open up this in a second but this is the battery case that came with it I suppose if you had an extra battery you’d probably use this more often but it only came with one battery and you can also put the memory card inside of it so that’s a good carrying case the outside of it looks like this nice little box. See if we can do this one-handed.
So I saw a great video of a guy reviewing this Osmo action compared to a Gopro and it was that video was one of the reasons I bought this instead of the Gopro because he was comparing it to the Gopro 9 and talking about how the Gopro 9 was having a lot of a lot of glitches with the touch screen where there would be a delay in the response.
So here’s the front. So one of the warnings on the lens there was it says to tighten the lens jacket before swimming and so this lens jacket is helps make it waterproof. Over here there’s a button that says QS and that says to switch modes. Switch screens into exit on the top there’s a display power button and then the red button is actually the shutter button.
So we can have where the accessories get on the bottom here. All right, so I popped it out of the the case and there’s it without the case on. It’s actually quite small which is good.
This box here has some of the accessories that come with the camera which is some mounting brackets, there’s two of them one looks like this where it has more of a curve to it and then it’s got the the adhesive on one side and then there’s one more of a circle disc like that and then there’s the screw connector for for the bases.
So if you bought this camera, just the camera itself directly from DJI this is what you would get in the package. The little battery carrying case. The battery is already inside the camera. This is the Froggy brand of accessory kit. This also fits the Gopro camera so it can be interchanged between either. I’m not going to get into each one of these I’m just going to try to open it up and kind of give you an idea of what’s in there.
Just in the top sleeve over here we have what looks like one that you would take swimming with you so it looks like it’ll actually float in the water. There’s a a tripod hand grip where each one of these is actually flexible and there’s different mounting brackets. One has like a curved arm and obviously that i haven’t even gotten into most of these I don’t even know what most of them do but there’s one that has like a little sliding clip on it with the strap. I believe this is the chest strap to wear on your chest. Then I think this is the one for a head mount. This was more of just a strong clamp style with some teeth on it and different adhesive. Here’s one for your windshield, has a little suction cup and a little arm that can be adjusted up and down and left and right. This one looks more like a a lanyard with a sticky grip on it
There you go. I took all the screen protectors off and we are going to boot this up for the first time. Okay it comes to some selections here. I might have to put my hand over here just like that. Next screen is this. Skip. Today’s date, there’s a date screen. Time, all right. Tap switch mode, video, photo, custom.
Nice all right so one of the things I didn’t figure out when I was first looking at it was how to switch it from the screen on the back to where the screen on the front. It will start showing your video and what you do is this button here is you hard press it so if you hold it down you can see that little icon and then it’s on the front. So that was pretty easy and if you switch it back it goes back. There you go.
So digging through the accessories I’ve I found the the tripod, a little handheld tripod and I found the attachment that you can attach the tripod to the camera. Actually it was really tight getting that to fit. To get it to go in there. I don’t know if Gopro would fit easier or not but this one for Osmo was pretty tight and there’s a screw action that actually has a screw and attaches between the two. So it’s pretty cool and these legs are all bendable so you can adjust them as needed. It has a voice control feature where the command list kind of gives you the list of things you can say to your camera. Here’s the start recording, stop recording, take photo, screen switch, and shut down.
All right this is the first video I’m taking and the first thing I notice is that there is a lag from me talking and versus what I am seeing on the this screen that is facing me on the camera. Maybe, that is kind of disorienting. I don’t know if that’s gonna always be like that. There’s a setting that is a rock steady setting. I think it’s for when you’re actually holding the camera and you’re walking like on a trail it’ll help smooth out the action and that might be slowing it down as well but right now I still have it on that tripod and just holding it but with the rock steady action I think it kind of makes the movement really really smooth rather than choppy. Looking at it the screen on the front is not a touch screen it is just for your for visual. If you want to actually change any of the settings or the options you got to flip it back to the screen on the back and then you can start doing the touch screen. Okay, I turned that rock steady setting off and the lag is pretty much gone from me talking right now and what I’m seeing on the screen. So that’s pretty cool.
This is going to be fun to play with and mess around doing different types of video shots and I hope to bring you more videos like this so be sure to like and subscribe. And this channel is starting out and I’d love it for you to send me a comment or suggestion of what you’d like to see in the future. Thanks, see you.
